Lillestrøm Bridge - Cycling & Pedestrian

Location: Lillestrøm, Norway
Phase: Schematic design

Year: 2021
Span: 116 m
Client: Lillestrøm kommune
Role: Architect, BIM coordinator
In collaboration with: Ark Studio

Project received an honorable in the design competition for a new bridge over the Skjærvagapet. The bridge will strengthen the connection along the river bank and is an important measure in an overall urban development strategy that will help to link Strømmen and Lillestrøm better together. In particular, measures that facilitate safe and efficient pedestrian and bicycle connections will be important to strengthen the investment in green mobility.

The construction has a compact main beam and is shaped in a soft S-shape to provide movement and dynamics in the bridge system. The soft form resting on a double pillar makes little intrusion into the landscape in the north, while at the same time the form emphasises the bridge span in the south through the contrast with the stair/pier system and the massive and cubic expression of the land vessel.
